Spacing on a gourd for drilling holes or making consistent lines can be challenging. There are many ways to do it involving rubber bands, flexible tubing, and sets of rings. However, one of the Dappled Apples presented the group with her technique and we're all sold on it as the most inexpensive and yet accurate way we've seen. The beauty of Mardi Gras beads is the consistently spaced beads along a sturdy string.

Cross the string at the site where you want to make the circle.

The circle of beads is placed where it is needed for measurement.
If too small, uncross the beads and cross again to make the circle bigger.

Use a pencil to mark the places where holes are to be drilled.
